The Big Decline Within the Music Industry… June 28, 2007

For those of you who haven’t had the opportunity to read the article in the most recent Rolling Stone issue (yeah the one with The Police on the cover and Sting looking older than ever), please check out the link here. It has everything from Nielsen stats of the major decrease in album sales over the past years (even though digital is on the rise, we’re still in the red folks) and “anonymous” quotes from Senior Executives that paints a very ugly picture on where the industry is headed. Not to mention how many record label folks who’ve been “laid off” over the past few years. As I argue just about every day of my life when discussing the industry’s demise, it’s time for a change and by change I mean a new business model and pushing the dinosaurs and their old frame of thought (cough radio cough) out! Enjoy the article and I hope that someone comments with their thoughts.

The pace and toy instruments really sell this video for me. If it wasn’t for that first shot of the toy tape player, I wouldn’t have even watched this myself. Enjoy!

Interscope is attempting to make money by teaming up with a beverage company to brand drinks with their rosters faces. So when you are drinking one of those fine beverages, you can stare into the eyes of your beloved Dr. Dre or Queens of the Stone Age….maybe the labels should focus their efforts on new business models. That would be beneficial for their artists…..just saying.

If you answered that question yes, well then you are not the only one.  Roger Tullgren, an obsessed heavy metal fan from Sweden, has been officially classified as being 100% addicted to listening to heavy metal.  His obsession has gone so far as to grant him financial assistance.  Don’t believe me?  Well then check out the story here.

Check out this really cool Tunnel House installation.  Not sure where it is located since the entire page is in Spanish, but the overall design is pretty incredible.  I second the first person’s comment about how it reminds me of the House Of Leaves.

Coolhunting is featuring an installation by Jason Bruges where he uses wind-power to demonstrate that which President Bush seems to deny: alternate energy sources. One of the simplest solutions to this burning of too much coal is WIND!  Yay!  Well Jason does this amazing installation where these mini wind turbines power the LED’s as the wind moves through them creating this psychedelic patter in the night’s sky.  Check it out for yourself here.

Remember that case where the student made a banner that said Bong Hits 4 Jesus on it and he got in trouble?  Well his case has finally been settled by the highest of courts and what was the result?  Basically they limited students first amendment by permitting censorship of any students speech that mentions drugs and has a pro-drug message.  Freedom of speech my ass…..
